From park to lake

Start off at the hamlet of Piazzano (a fraction of Tuoro sul Trasimeno,Umbria) situated approximately 1.5 Km west of Pergo ( a fraction of Cortona,Tuscany). The hike begins at a small church located in Umbria on a hill above Piazzano. From there a stone road leads uphill past olive groves and meadows.

After going through a shadowed oak forest with thick undergrowth, you reach a 600-meter-high plateau with a gorgeous view of the Lake Trasimeno. The town of Tuoro sul Trasimeno is located at the foot of the mountain and Castiglion del Lago can be seen to the south-west on the other side of the lake.

After approximately 15 minutes, you arrive at Poggio Capanna (Poggio Connie). From there, you can see the unmistakable volcanic silhouette of Mount Amiata and Mount Subasio above Assisi. Both mountains, measuring 1,700 m and 1,300 m respectively, are often capped with snow in the winter and early spring.
