Garden history

In 1996, Thomas Reinhardt, an experienced landscape designer and artist, and his wife Martina, née Kofoth, established an eclectic garden and park landscape on a 300 hectare piece of property in Tuoro sul Trasimeno (More)

Before this, the couple worked as landscape designers on Eastern Long Island, New York. When it comes to garden planning, they do not follow any rules or particular styles. They break away completely from established patterns.

Thomas and Martina Reinhardt had brought plants from their former private garden in East Hampton L.I. to Italy. Here they tried them out over several growing periods in the setting of a tropical garden. A few years later the garden in the olive grove was created and then the herbaceous double border was born in order to connect the Tropical Garden in the valley with the Olive Grove Garden further up the hill.

Some parts of a relatively untouched forest stretching to Lake Trasimeno have now been transformed into a country park.

Thomas and Martina Reinhardt’s long-term goals are to seamlessly integrate the entire property in to landscape, open it up to visitors on request, and, in particular, use it for practical gardening projects with the surrounding communities.
